6. King K. Rool (Donkey Kong Country series)

One of the most requested characters from many a Smash Bros. fan. King K. Rool just makes sense. Not only would it add another character to the Donkey Kong series, but he also has such an eclectic selection of moves at his disposal that he could very well become a player favourite. Using his blunderbuss, cannonballs, kremlings and even his crown offers up many possibilities for an offensive or defensive play style. Although seeing as the Kremling King was shamefully absent from Donkey Kong Country Returns, it makes us think his chances of getting an invite to future Smash games are dwindling. However, this won’t stop us from dreaming about him making a surprise appearance. Also, he’s a fricken crocodile.

5. Young Link (The Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask)

Yes, we’re fully aware that Young Link was a playable character in Melee. And we are fully aware that you might be wondering why we would want a ‘clone’ character to return. Well, whilst we do want Young Link back, we also want him to have a complete revamp of his move-sets and play style. Essentially, he will now be four characters in one; with the aid of his three mask items from Majora’s Mask. Similarly to Pokemon Trainer, pressing ‘down+B’, multiple times, will see you cycle through four different characters: Young Link, Deku Link, Goron Link and Zora Link. Each version of Link will have its strengths and weaknesses and offer up, potentially, one of the most unique and diversive characters in Smash Bros. history. Make it happen Sakurai. Also, Fierce Deity Link as a Final Smash. Oooooooh.

4. Ridley (Metroid series)

Uh oh. Okay, the beautiful thing about our staff members voting in these polls is that sometimes an option appears that the creator of the polls (me) finds questionable. However, I cannot argue with the votes and the numbers say that Ridley is our 4th most wanted character for Smash Bros. It’s understandable, really. Ridley has been one of THE most requested characters by fans since the dawn of the first Smash game. It’s also understandable why he has not become a playable character; the main issue being his massive size. But I guess with a little tweaking he could work and many a fan would be squealing with joy if it ever came to pass. Also, erm …

3. Saki Amamiya (Sin and Punishment)

The male protagonist of the N64 cult shoot-em-up, Sin and Punishment, almost seemed like he was considered to be a playable character in Brawl. He appeared as one of the many assist trophies and showed off a selection of moves that would make him perfect as a permanent addition. His rapid-fire laser gun mixed with his energy sword could turn him into a combo king, not to mention his lightning speed and counter attacks. Maybe his appearance as an assist trophy was Sakurai’s way of testing the waters of his popularity? Also, quirky Japanese type character.

2. Issac (Golden Sun)

Like Saki, Issac seemed to have almost become a playable character in Brawl, due to him also being an assist trophy to aid whomever summons him. Sadly, he didn’t because we really think he would be a great fit. Rather than just being another sword user, he would be able to use the power of Psynergy to push opponents out of the way or even hold them in their tracks, where he could then unleash a wealth of sword attacks. He could also have a similar play style to Olimar by having a group Djinns following him around and using their various elemental attacks whenever Issac calls upon them. That might make him sound a tad overpowered, but you can’t deny it would be pretty cool. Also breastplate nipples.

Head to PAGE 4 to see who we picked as our most wanted character.

David Rawlings
David Rawlings, or ‘Rawky’ as we like to call him, joined the Operation Rainfall Campaign at the beginning. He’s British and found solace with us as he was able to understand our pain about Nintendo and their localizing faux pas. He’s a big fan of the letter ‘U’ and refuses to remove them from words, even though we constantly ask him to. He also believes it’s about time Princess Daisy got kidnapped.
