Good news for fans of the original Theatrhythm Final Fantasy came the other day in the news of a 3DS sequel. Called Theatrhythm Final Fantasy: Curtain Call, it is set to hit Japan in spring 2014. Boasting over 200 songs and over 60 characters, it is a sequel I am very eager to play. Based on the few early screenshots alone, it looks as though it will feature some interesting innovations, such as airship field music and a feature very lacking in the first: a versus mode.
Not quite sure how either of those will play out, but hopefully, they will bring some much needed variety to the already fun series. Besides these new features, it looks as though the game will still retain the battle and series music, which I spent a great deal of time replaying just to listen to the cool tunes.
Speaking of which, I do hope that Curtain Call employs more classic Final Fantasy songs in the new game as well as tunes from recent releases. One of the best things for me about the original Theatrhythm was the classic, retro beats that I got to hack, slash and cast to. Fingers crossed that Square Enix unearths more classic goodies from their vault.
