The Legend of Dragoon, a JRPG cult classic, may very well get the remake or sequel fans have been hoping for since its initial 2000 release.
Sony Computer Entertainment America recently renewed the registered trademark for the game, which could indicate intent to reuse it in some way. Of course, like some trademark filings, it could also just be good accounting on Sony’s part. Still, The Legend of Dragoon went live on the North American PSN on May 1 and has sold respectably on the service, so prospects could be good.
For those who aren’t aware, The Legend of Dragoon was an epic, four-disc PS1 RPG that made our list of Top 10 PS1 Games, and it’s not hard to see why. Despite mixed reviews upon its initial release, The Legend of Dragoon was simply ahead of its time. It has an innovative combat system and high production values, including graphics and music that still hold up well today. However, a previous attempt at a sequel to this game was cancelled and never revealed until recently before its PSN release.
In the meantime, let’s hope SCEA has something to say in the future about The Legend of Dragoon.
