J-Stars Victory VS - oprainfall

Yet more fighters have been announced for the upcoming fighting title J-Stars Victory VS. Yusuke Urameshi from YuYu Hakusho and Gon Freecss from Hunter X Hunter are a hard act to follow, but these two new contenders seem ready to take on the challenge.

First up is Taro Yamada from the manga Chinyuuki: Tarou to Yukai na Nakama-tachi. In the image above, he’s the bald one with the wide eyes. While it’s difficult to find English language information on the manga, it appears to be a comedy lightly based on the Chinese epic tale Journey to the West. Another character from the series named Babaa might also make an appearance in the game.

The next new challenger is Jaguar Jun-ichi from the  gag manga Pyu to Fuku! Jaguar. In his source material, Jaguar is a recorder virtuoso. While music seems to be his passion, and will likely factor into his fighting style, it’s been confirmed at least one of his attacks is ramen-related.

These two definitely seem like obscure choices to us in the West; but if anything, it seems like Taro and Jaguar will bring some more laughs and variety to J-Stars Victory VS, and that’s never a bad thing. The rest of the cast for the game includes Sakata Gintoki (Gintama) , Kankichi Ryotsu (Kochikame), Monkey D. Luffy (One Piece), Toriko (Toriko), Ichigo Kurosaki (Bleach), Himura Kenshin (Rurouni Kenshin), Naruto (Naruto), and Goku (DragonBall Z).

It was also revealed in this announcement that players will be able to collaborate with one another to perform special combo attacks. For more information, check out our previous coverage of the battle system. J-Stars Victory VS will release in Japan for the PlayStation 3 and PS Vita.
