THQ’s bankruptcy auction is happening today, meaning that all of their IP will be auctioned off to other companies. All except for one, apparently. A few days ago, South Park Digital Studios LLC filed an objection to the sale of South Park: The Stick of Truth unless some conditions are met.
These conditions include South Park Digital Studios being okay with the sale of the South Park IP, receiving a whopping $2.275 million for defaulted payments, and “adequate assurance of future performance” of The Stick of Truth. Should THQ fail to meet these requirements, South Park Digital Studios has the option to buy back the rights for the game for as much as THQ spent on its development.
Personally, I’m hoping the rights are bought back by South Park Digital Studios. I shudder to think what would happen if the rights for The Stick of Truth, or any further South Park games, fell into EA’s hands.
