The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword - Wii Vote

The one game that many people envisioned playing when the Wii was first announced. The thought of using the Wii remote to re-enact the swiping and slashing of a sword had many gamers salivating at the mouth. Unfortunately it took a good five years for that to happen, with many failed attempts by other developers. The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword is one of the few games that really understood what motion control was about and obviously entertained you lot enough to vote it in at number 3. Throw in an origin story, a unique over-world and stylistic visuals that gave the world of Hyrule a whole new look and you have one Zelda title that, despite dividing some fans, offered an experience like no other.

Super Smash Bros Brawl - Wii Vote

Storming in at number 2 is the Wii’s version of one of Nintendo’s biggest ever series. Super Smash Bros. Brawl astounded the world upon its reveal during E3 2006. The upgraded graphics, insane power moves in the form of ‘Final Smashes’ and the inclusion of Solid Snake as a playable character got every single Nintendo fan ripping their knickers off with excitement. The final product introduced us to 35 playable characters, one of them being Sonic the Hedgehog, a huge single player adventure, online play, a stage creator and music, trophies and stickers that covered every single Nintendo game you could think of. Some hard-core players may prefer Melee, but you can’t deny the love that was put into Brawl.

Xenoblade Chronicles - Wii Vote

Every story must be told, every tower must be conquered, every chronicle must be written. These were the words that many a member of Operation Rainfall would speak when we campaigned for the three games. We’ve already seen Pandora’s Tower and The Last Story enter the Top 10, and it’s no surprise to see the third game enter at number 1 with 75% of the final votes. Xenoblade Chronicles is, without a shadow of a doubt, a masterpiece. The Wii was generally very starved for JRPGS, so it seems very apt that Monolith Soft’s epic adventure would appear during the final life cycle of the little white console. A game that can take up to 80 hours to complete, almost twice the time if you want to see everything. A story so enticing, full of many twists, shocks and emotion. Characters you will get attached to, characters you will hate. A soundtrack that could be considered to be one of the best of all time. Everyone at oprainfall had high hopes for Xenoblade Chronicles, but nothing could prepare us for just how epic (it really is) and engrossing it was. And you lot obviously feel the same way, too.

David Rawlings
David Rawlings, or ‘Rawky’ as we like to call him, joined the Operation Rainfall Campaign at the beginning. He’s British and found solace with us as he was able to understand our pain about Nintendo and their localizing faux pas. He’s a big fan of the letter ‘U’ and refuses to remove them from words, even though we constantly ask him to. He also believes it’s about time Princess Daisy got kidnapped.
