Puzzle & Dragons, a popular social puzzle RPG for iOS and Android, published by GungHo Online Entertainment is now coming to the 3DS, as Puzzle & Dragons Z. The reveal was featured in the latest issue of CoroCoro.

The game’s mixture of puzzle and monster-collecting elements will continue in Z, which features over 200 monsters. Like the original Puzzle & Dragons, the 3DS version will task players with quickly matching elemental orbs on the puzzle screen in order to increase the power of their monsters’ abilities. The elemental orbs have to match the monsters, so having a wide variety of monsters on your team of five is key to racking up powerful combos. To succeed, you will have to capture, collect, and evolve the game’s monsters to get your party perfect, and then deliver quick thinking on the battlefield.

Because the game already features a view of the monsters on the top and the puzzle board on the bottom, it should be a perfect fit for the 3DS’ dual-screen system. It could mean an improvement on the game’s current control scheme as well.

Puzzle & Dragons is much more popular in Japan than it is in America, with over 12 million players. Japan will be getting the game some time this winter. Considering that this is GungHo’s most successful game, though, it’s possible that the West will be getting Z as well.

Do you have experience with Puzzle & Dragons? Are you excited for the 3DS version?
