Heroes of Ruin is an action role-playing game courtesy of developer n-Space by way of publisher Square Enix. The game was designed to take advantage of most of the 3DS’s capabilities, even getting help from Nintendo in the development. If you live in Europe (or have a European 3DS), you can buy the game right now. For those of us in the NOA region, we have to wait until July 17th for the game to release.
But we can get a taste of the game right now. The demo of Heroes of Ruin released on the North American eShop on July 5th. So if you’re looking forward to this game – or maybe you’re on the fence as to whether you will purchase this game – check it out. Here’s what you can expect in the demo.
You start by selecting your character class. You’ll choose between the Vindicator (a sword-swinging warrior) and the Gunslinger (a distance attacker with slashes in close). In the full game, you can choose between the Alchitect (a magical sorceress) and the Savage (a big brawler).
After customizing your character, you enter the demo story, The Tangled Growth. There will be about half a dozen quests you do during the demo with the main story quest having you kill the evil Michadele. You also get a taste of multiplayer (minus the voice chat) in which you can jump in or drop out with fellow players.
I like the feel of the game. It reminds me a lot of Gauntlet with the music, the character dialog, the character visuals, and the camera (the last of which was the only issue I had with the game). The 3D was used very well in the game. Overall, I liked it.
But before I recommend Heroes of Ruin and give it the Rainfall stamp of approval, I must say that not everyone on the staff is in complete agreement with me. A number of staff members didn’t care much for the single player portion of the game. However, those moods seemed to change when they played the multiplayer, leaving pretty much one person not liking the game. With that said, I would recommend buying the game so that we have people to play the multiplayer with.
Heroes of Ruin is rated T for Teen and will be releasing on July 17th in North America. If you wish to learn more about the game, click here (http://www NULL.heroesofruin NULL.com/).
