The World Ends With You, one of our favorite DS titles here at OpRa, may soon have a sequel – if Square Enix’s latest teaser site is to be believed.

The countdown has started…

Square’s Japanese website is teasing a new title with a countdown, and there are several hints that this may be a new installment in The World Ends With You franchise. The font used in the countdown looks similar to the one seen in parts of the first game, and the URL ends in “Subaseka” – possibly an abbreviation of Subarishiki Kono Sekai, the game’s original Japanese title.

For the record, the recent Kingdom Hearts 3D: Dream Drop Distance had a world based on and featuring characters from the game. Series producer and Square veteran Tetsuya Nomura has also strongly hinted at a possible sequel to The World Ends With You in some interviews about Dream Drop Distance.

Tweets from Square Enix’s First Production Department and Takeharu Ishimoto, who worked on the music for The World Ends With You, have hinted that the upcoming game could be released on PCs and smartphones. At any rate, here’s hoping that Square Enix has good news for this game’s numerous fans.

Will Whitehurst
Will joined the Operation Rainfall Campaign soon after news broke of that infamous French interview about Xenoblade. Subsequently, he got actively involved and became a staff member in July/August 2011. He is currently the head of the Japanese translation team, and loves to play, discuss, debate and learn more about games. Will gravitates towards unconventional action games and RPGs, but plays pretty much anything except Madden. He is also currently attending college, honing his Japanese skills and preparing for medical school. (Coincidentally, Trauma Center is one of his favorite game series of all time.)
