On the very last day of PAX Prime 2013, I came across a promising-looking new mobile RPG called Hello Hero developed by Fincon, a South Korean team. Though they didn’t have a playable version of the game available, they did have a nice setup, with a trailer of the game running on a constant loop and two individuals cosplaying as characters from the game.

From the information provided at their area, I learned that Hello Hero is a top-grossing mobile game and has been downloaded more than a million times between Japan and South Korea. It is also ranked first on the iTunes App Store and third on Google Play in the “Top Grossing” category. It has maintained a stable user base in South Korea and has successfully launched in Japan. Also of note is that the game is free to download and play but isn’t pay-to-win.

Stylistically, the game appears to be a classic turn-based RPG. You journey with a team of five heroes across the planet of Armon and constantly expand your ranks with more heroes, ranging from succubi to guitar-playing cacti to spear-wielding sharks.

There are a grand total of 200 different characters to choose from. Your goal is to accumulate wealth to acquire more heroes or build up stats. This can be accomplished via Boss Raids, Player vs. Player, Mission, Arena Battle and Dungeon modes.

The game will employ a variety of environments, such as forests, oceans and dungeons. Furthermore, every three days, players are able to participate online together against epic World Bosses. Yoo Choung-Gil, CEO of Fincon, says, “As our first mobile launch in the United States, we wanted to deliver the fun and excitement of an online RPG to mobile gamers, new and experienced alike. Whether you have five minutes while waiting in line or an hour on the bus, Hello Hero is a fantastic offering to mid-core gamers who enjoy social RPGs.”

Though I didn’t get to try it firsthand, I must say the charming visuals and chibi art style appealed to me. Hello Hero is set to hit the App Store, Google Play and Facebook in the United States this fall. Until then, enjoy the following trailers!
