2012 Top Moments

And my personal favorite opinion comes from Richard Ross, co-founder of the oprainfall website. He not only made me laugh, but he also managed to insult us all and get away with it! Y SO SRS?! I saved this piece for last as a reward to everyone who took the time to read through these opinions and read my first article published. That’s right, I shall reward all of you amazing people who put up with our collective butt hurting and leave you with this jewel, which reminds us that sometimes a cigar is just a cigar:

“Have we run out of things to bitch about that we have to resort to analyzing a simple clear cut commercial advertising the 3DS to the masses instead of just us? News flash, there’s more than just “gamers” that use consoles. These commercials don’t come out as insulting; they don’t come out as anything other than just commercials! If Gabby Douglas said “I’m a Gamer” I’d say bullshit, you’re an Olympic gold medalist, and you have no time for that crap! It would come out as fake, and (more so than it already is) acted. There was no defiant declaration of “I’m not a Gamer!” They were just stating “I’m not a Gamer, but I like to play on the 3DS anyway.” Much like how a person could say they aren’t a Gamer, but like playing solitaire on the computer anyway. There is no subliminal message, no intent on insulting their fans; they’re just simply trying to broaden their audience. The only way to possibly be insulted by something like this is to look for a way to be insulted. Quite frankly I’m more insulted by the “Gamers” claiming there’s some sort of hidden message that being a Gamer is bad. Are you that insecure about your lifestyle that you have to think that way? By making a ruckus out of nothing, you just reinforced this stereotype of Gamers being selfish, needy, and whiny  If they really were trying to distance themselves from “Gamers” than how can you blame them considering how “Gamers” just reacted? If Gamers are going to continue being that way (which they are) then I don’t want to be one… I’ll stick to being an aficionado.

I’m not a “fanboy” of Nintendo at all so what they do doesn’t matter much to me. A lot of people forget that Nintendo is a business first and foremost; they want to sell their products, just like Microsoft is doing with their Kinect games and Sony is doing with the wonderbook. They care about their main fans just as much as they care about the people they don’t have yet; which is to say they actually do. They are bound to make commercials focusing more on one portion of their audience rather than everyone as if they try to focus on everyone in the 30 second time span of the commercial, they’ll wind up diluting the message that this console is for you. In this case they wanted to focus on the majority of people who probably bought the Wii (which, by the way, probably wasn’t gamers). So they get some celebrities, and show how much fun they are having playing on the 3DS despite not being gamers. Is that so wrong? Did it really stab you in the heart because you thought they were insulting you? Get over it.

tl;dr: Grow up, stop analyzing commercials and looking for things that aren’t there and get back to what you do best… well second thing after bitching… play video games.”
