It seems like every other week a game is released for the PS3 which makes me want to buy the system more and more. Such is the case today, with the release of Mamorukun Curse! for the PS3’s PSN. Developed by G.rev and Gulti, the developers who brought us bullet hell masterpiece Ikaruga, and published by UFO Interactive, Mamorukun Curse! was originally released as an arcade shooter in Japan in 2008.

Though this isn’t the first port of the game, as it was brought to the XBox 360 in Japan in 2009, it is the first Western port of the game. Players control a handful of different characters who seemingly utilize animal familiars as weapon enhancement pods, as can see in the trailer below. Players fight through the Netherworld hordes, avoiding nightmare swarms of bullets, all without traditional SHMUP scrolling. Instead, players can control their movement, wandering around and blasting their enemies.

This version of the game will also include all the DLC released in the Japanese version, free of charge. So if you like SHMUPS and have a PS3, this July 16th you definitely owe it to yourself to pick this beauty up for a mere $19.99. If you’re still uncertain, watch the trailer below and decide for yourself!
