Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII

Square Enix has announced that the Japanese voice-overs in Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII will be available to players as downloadable content. The Japanese Voice-Over Pack, as it is called, will be a free download for the first two weeks following the game’s release. After that, the Japanese voice-overs will still be available, but as paid DLC.

The Japanese Voice-Over Pack also features different lip-synching animations from the English-language voice-over. This may be the reason they decided it would be released as DLC instead of just including the original audio tracks on the retail disc.

So if you’re a purist who prefers games in Japanese language, then make sure you pick up your copy early to take advantage of the free download window. There is no word yet on how much the DLC will cost after two weeks have passed. Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII will be released for both the PlayStation 3 and the Xbox 360 on February 11, 2014.
