Killer Is Dead

Earlier today, Famitsu unveiled some details about the next game being made by Suda51. The game is called Killer is Dead, which Suda claims to be have been working on for quite some time now. He said it to be “a title that picks up where Killer7 and No More Heroes left off.” What that means exactly is unknown, but it’s safe to say that it’s a spiritual successor to both of those titles.

Like Killer7 and No More Heroes, Killer is Dead is a stylized, cel-shaded game about an assassin going around and killer dudes in spectacular ways. Despite the callback, Suda is quick to point out that they’re not just going back into his past work. “We’re trying to make a game that we’d only be able to make right now, at this point in time,” he explains. “The result is seen in our unique high-contrast shading seen in the graphics, as well as the high speed wrestling-like action.”

In this case, you play as Mondo Zappa, a 35-year old man with a suit, a sword and a cybernetic left arm that can turn into all manner of murder-tools. This includes guns, drills, and other upgrades you can acquire throughout the game. Similar to Killer7, his arm can also absorb blood spilled from Mondo’s enemies. But instead of using said blood to upgrade your abilities, it allows him to use a special “Adrenaline Burst” attack that can take out an enemy in one hit.

In case you haven’t noticed, some of us at OpRainfall (myself included) really like Suda51’s work. Killer7, No More Heroes, Shadows of the Damned, etc. So to hear about this new Suda51 game on top of XSEED’s announcement regarding Pandora’s Tower just made my day all kinds of super-special-awesome.
