Natural Doctrine - oprainfall

At the SCEJA Press Conference 2013 this morning, Kadokawa Games Studio announced a new game titled Natural Doctrine, a strategy-RPG where you “assault through the world by natural selection.” The game is bound for Playstation 3, PS Vita, and Playstation 4. It will also be launching on the same day as the Playstation 4’s release- February 22, 2014. Natural Doctrine is the first game to be made by Kadokawa Games, which had until now had only published games, including recent titles by Grasshopper Manufacture.

You can see the trailer for Natural Doctrine below:

Immediately, the game introduces us to a gritty setting set by the choices of music and colors. Corresponding with the brooding soundtrack are monochromatic visuals revealing themselves in brown, grey, and beige hues, as well as hard lighting and thick shadows. Since Natural Doctrine was announced as a SRPG, the game shows us just that by having isometric maps and grids textured onto the environment, which imply where the characters stand. Additionally, the trailer showed numerous classes such as knights, spellcasters and gunners. It will be interesting to see if this game has a job-class system reminiscent to that of the Squaresoft SRPGs from the past.

Hopefully, as the release date is not very far off, we will see more of this game- especially when Tokyo Game Show is right around the corner.
