When Marnie Was There Ghibli

When Japanse film distributor Toho announced their lineup for next year, Studio Ghibli’s next film was amongst that list. The film will be an adaption of the classic children’s novel When Marnie Was Therewritten by Joan G. Robinson. The novel is one of 50 on the list of recommendations for children compiled by Studio Ghibli co-founder Hayao Miyazaki. An official site has been launched for the film, but it doesn’t provide us with many details just yet. It does feature a tagline for the film which reads “There is a magical circle invisible to the naked eye in this world.”

Hiromasa Yonebayashi, director of The Secret World of Arrietty, will be returning to direct this adaption, making it his second film. Yonebayashi co-wrote the screen play with Keiko Niwa (best known for Ocean Waves, From Up on Poppy Hilland The Secret World of Arrietty) and Masashi Ando (who worked on Princess Mononoke, Spirited Away, and Paprika). Takatsugu Muramatsu will be writing the score.

Although details about the film are limited right now, more are sure to be coming soon, since the film will be released sometime in 2014. Be sure to stay tuned for more news. Hopefully we’ll get to see an official trailer for the film soon!
