Earlier this morning, the team behind OUYA announced a partnership with Square Enix to bring Final Fantasy III to their console. And by that, I mean a console version of the DS remake of Final Fantasy III. In addition, the game will get a graphical overhaul to take advantage of the OUYA’s graphics, as well as a free demo.
“Previously unreleased in the U.S. until it appeared as a 3D remake for the Nintendo DS in 2006, Final Fantasy III was widely referred to as one of the “missing pieces” in the FF series. OUYA players can now proudly claim this piece of the puzzle.
We’re thrilled to bring this storied franchise to OUYA.”
This is pretty big news. Not only is this the first major publisher to officially support the OUYA, but it’s the first time we’ll get to experience Final Fantasy III in console form outside of Japan. That being said, I’d definitely like to see some other, more popular Square Enix titles on the OUYA. Square, Julie, if either of you are reading this, let me offer you a suggestion.
