Final Fantasy Airborne Brigade Logo

Square Enix announced yesterday that they will be bringing the “highly popular” social mobile title Final Fantasy: Airborne Brigade to the US and Canada. The game, co-developed by DeNa, features the same character artwork by Monster Octopus that was present in the 3DS game Theatrythm Final Fantasy and will have players riding airships and fighting powerful foes with custom-formed parties.

If the combination of the words mobile, social and game don’t immediately scare you off – you might want to check this out. Final Fantasy Airborne Brigade will be free to download for both Android and iOS devices, and if you pre-register on the game’s website you will also receive an exclusive in-game card of Cloud Strife.

Kenji Kobayashi, director at DeNa, had this to say about the game:
“In celebration of the franchise’s 25th anniversary this year, we have worked hard to create a unique game play experience where players can elevate each other through fun, cooperative play.”

Really, Square Enix? Your most popular franchise is having its 25th anniversary and all you have to show for it is a mobile social game? They could have localized a game fans actually want to play and perhaps put some effort into finishing Final Fantasy Versus XIII, but it seems the company just hates making money.
