Cryamore - NostalgiCO

Indie action adventure project Cryamore has reached a threshold of over $225,000 on Kickstarter that provides funding for the game and now its release on Playstation 3, Wii U, and Xbox 360.

The funding for this retro-influenced project began only a month ago and was initially asking for the humble goal of $60,000 for development of the game. That figure has since more than tripled, and developer NostalgiCO has been offering to use any additional budget for more polish and features in the finished game. The final tier of this extra content was a commitment to release the game on all major consoles, which was reached today in the final hours of this Kickstarter. The project was originally announced for PC and Mac, but has already received enough funding for release on Android, iOS, and Linux as well. Backers are expected to receive the game when it is finished in March 2014.

The game’s influences read like a list of Japanese gaming classics throughout the 1990’s. Action Adventure games like Legend of Zelda and Super Metroid are cited alongside JRPGs like Chrono Trigger and Legend of Mana. Throw in some Mega Man and some Brave Fencer Musashi, press blend, and you have a sublime concoction of 90’s nostalgia.

The game itself is an action adventure title, featuring real-time combat with RPG elements and puzzle-solving gameplay against hand-drawn backgrounds. Many independent retro-inspired projects may cause concern for not being authentic enough, or even being too authentic. Cryamore appears to be striking a delicate balance between the two behind an organized team with passion and now a reliable budget. The funding campaign on Kickstarter ended its final day Tuesday at 1:38am EST after raising a total of $242,309.
