The time has finally come: Square Enix has finally come out and admitted the resemblance between the main protagonist of Final Fantasy VII, Cloud Strife, and everyone’s favorite Final Fantasy heroine Lightning.

… Okay, so they haven’t done that. But they did announce a pre-order Cloud Strife outfit with Buster Sword, an all DLC bonus for those who- you guessed it- pre-order the third and final installment of the Final Fantasy XIII saga, Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII.  They also released a trailer showing off our pink-haired protagonist in her new ensemble, which you can check out below.

Nice touch with the menu fonts and layout. A good callback.

One of  the aspects of this title that Square Enix focused on back at E3 was the ability for Lightning to dress up in a wide array of colorful, funny, and outrageous outfits. So we saw the DLC for outfits coming a mile away, but who would have thought they would pull this out of nowhere? The irony is that fans have been calling Lightning a female Cloud since her reveal back before the game was even released, so its almost like Square Enix was indeed listening. Mocking aside, this is kinda neat. Hilarious, but neat. With the outfit system, might as well go all out right?

Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII is a PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 title that will arrive on February 11th of next year, quickly followed by the PAL region release that same week. If you too want a Lightning Strife of your own, pre-order soon.
