In this new Castlevania: Lords of Shadow—Mirror of Fate trailer, we finally get to see footage of an adult Simon Belmont. He looks incredibly grisly in comparison to past games, and boy, does he look pissed.

Castlevania: Lords of Shadow—Mirror of Fate
Not included in the trailer. But it’s a nice throwback to Simon’s Quest.

So far, all previous trailers have focused on gameplay and narrative aspects exclusive to Trevor Belmont, the father of Simon Belmont. If Trevor’s not shown kissing his wife and child goodbye, he’s shown exploring a CG-rendered Castlevania on a 2D plane, demonstrating Combat Cross techniques against hellions and squaring off in a destined battle against Count Dracula.

The majority of this trailer is a scene between Simon Belmont and what looks like a ghoulish variant of Monita from Nintendoland. There’s not much going on between the two other than exposition behind Simon’s desperation to slay Dracula. The last bit of the trailer involves Simon confronting Dracula with some rivaling dialogue in between. And I confess that my inner Castlevania fanboy geeked out from seeing the inclusion of what appears to be Vampire Killer.

The animation, though experimental, looks incredibly odd with its stiff animations and lack of mouth flaps. But the visual aesthetic itself still looks promising, especially since it runs on a handheld platform. I am more than willing to give it a chance, since I’ve been excited about this game for quite a while.
