Did you like Marvel Super Heroes and Marvel Vs Capcom when they came out? Did you never quite get around to playing them in the first place?  Are you unhappy that you can’t play them online against people far better than you? Do you wish that you could own both of them in one packaged deal? Well, your problems are over! Capcom has just released Marvel Vs Capcom Origins, a compilation of, well, the origins of the Marvel Vs. Capcom series. The compilation contains Marvel Super Heroes, originally released in 1995, and Marvel Vs. Capcom, released in 1998. Strangely enough, the compilation does not contain X-men: Children of the Atom, the very first 2D fighter Capcom made based off the Marvel License.

As usual with re-releases, Capcom has added a few visual extras for your 2D fighting pleasure, as well as the token achievement system required for modern gaming. Along with the usual updated graphics and achievements, Capcom has also added a challenge mode called “The Vault”. Unlike most token challenge modes of the genre, which are only a method of earning achievements, Capcom has added a rather interesting function to the vault – completing challenges  earns you points, and these points can be used to earn extras such as concept art, making of videos, and hidden characters. Most gamers will probably use those points to purchase hidden characters, though. Strangely enough, Capcom apparently has no plans to release Marvel Vs. Capcom Origins in Japan, an unusual decision for them, considering their Japanese origin. Marvel Vs. Capcom Origins is available now on Xbox Live and Playstation Network in the U.S. and Europe.
