Koei Tecmo has released their latest Musou adventure Touken Ranbu Warriors. This is a collaboration game based off of “Touken Ranbu -ONLINE-” presented by DMM GAMES and NITRO PLUS. The story here follows the boys known as the Touken Danshi as they move through time setting events right that have altered by the menacing History Retrograde Army (HRA). Each team of Touken Danshi will need to use all of their wits to accomplish their mission and find their missing master.

Here is more about the game from the press release:

Utilize the powerful abilities and graceful actions of the Touken Danshi, including Hissatsu attacks, which perfectly capture each character’s personality as they elegantly defeat enemies in their path. Two characters can also partner up on the battlefield to unleash electrifying co-operative attacks, and the more certain Touken Danshi fight together, the more their bonds deepen and special conversation events can even take place. The game also features two different control modes: Easy Mode allows simple button commands for those new to the action game genre, while Regular Mode allows for a wider range of actions for fans already accustomed to musou-style controls.

In addition, Touken Ranbu Warriors features the Honmaru – the main base for the Touken Danshi – where players can get a glimpse of the daily life of their favorite characters. Occasionally mini-games will take place between missions. For example: if two Touken Danshi are together in the kitchen, they can work together to create mochi. If the mini-game is cleared, materials or koban can be obtained which can be used to upgrade the Honmaru or the Touken Danshi.

Aside from the Standard Edition of the game, Touken Ranbu Warriors is also available to purchase as a Digital Deluxe Edition, which includes an assortment of downloadable content. DLC packs featured in the Digital Deluxe Edition include the “Honmaru Backdrop”, which enables gamers to change the season of the honmaru; the “Additional Music” DLC, which includes five additional music pieces from Touken Ranbu -ONLINE- specially arranged for this title; and the “Uchiban Outfit” 16 piece set, which allows gamers to change the outfits of the Touken Danshi.

Touken Ranbu Warriors is out now on both Nintendo Switch and Steam. I am currently working on a full review of this one I hope to have out by the end of the week.

Steve started with oprainfall not long after the campaign moved from the IGN forums to Facebook. Ever since, he has been fighting to give all non-mainstream RPGs a fair voice. As the site admin, he will continue to do this and even show there is value in what some would deem "pure ecchi." He loves niche games and anime more than anything... well, except maybe Neptune.
