River City Girls

River City Girls has now made its way onto the PS5. For those of you who have it already on the PS4 digitally you can upgrade to the PS5 version for free. You can take a look at the game’s press release below.

Valencia, Calif. – January 20, 2022 – Get ready to rumble, PlayStation 5 owners — the River City Girls have arrived! In advance of the summer 2022 arrival of the all-new River City Girls 2, independent game studio WayForward is thrilled to announce that the digital version of the original River City Girls is now available natively on PlayStation 5, bringing with it local co-op beat-’em-up action, RPG-style character growth, gorgeous pixel-art visuals, and an epic synth-pop soundtrack. Supervised by the fighting-game experts at Arc System Works, this official entry in the legendary River City/Kunio-kun series is priced at $29.99 and is rated E10+ by the ESRB.

Initially released on consoles and PC in 2019, River City Girls puts players in control of hot-blooded heroines Misako and Kyoko as they fight their way across town in an attempt to rescue their boyfriends, series mainstays Kunio and Riki. As they brawl through six sprawling areas, they’ll master a variety of fighting techniques, overcome countless enemies and bosses, go shopping for power-ups and accessories, wield numerous weapons, complete side quests, interact with quirky NPCs, level up with experience points, and recruit defeated foes to assist them in battle.

River City Girls also features stunning animated cutscenes, motion-comic intermissions, extensive voiceovers by an all-star cast (including Kayli Mills as Misako and Kira Buckland as Kyoko), and an award-winning synth-pop soundtrack by Megan McDuffee, Chipzel, NateWantsToBattle, Dale North, and Cristina Vee. Additionally, the PlayStation 5 version of the game delivers new DualSense audio and Activity functionality; owners of the existing PlayStation 4 digital version of the game will be able to upgrade to the PS5 version at no extra charge.

Following the 2021 releases of Shantae: Risky’s Revenge – Director’s Cut and Shantae: Half-Genie Hero Ultimate Edition, River City Girls is the third of several WayForward titles arriving on PlayStation 5. Other legacy games planned to hit PS5 in the months ahead include the original Shantae, Shantae and the Pirate’s Curse, and Shantae and the Seven Sirens. In addition, the all-new sequel to River City Girls, River City Girls 2, is expected to launch on PlayStation 5 and other platforms in summer 2022.
