Gensokyo Night Festival is excited to announce its Stage 2 update is out now. The game is a Touhou Project spinoff,  developed by lone indie game developer, tea_basira. Using the Unreal Engine, he recreated his vision of Gensokyo, filling it with gorgeous pixel art scenery and visual effects. The game is in Early Access on Steam.

Some time after the last Hakurei Shrine Festival event, protagonist Suika Ibuki decides its time to rampage around Gensokyo. You see, it turns out that even though she is cute, she also happens to be a demon! Players will use her powers to unleash devastating attacks of varying types, like physical, ranged, and counters. They can be strung together into combos for greater effect. Her density charge power lets her add effects to her combos, to make them even more dangerous. The classic Touhou Project games mechanic of Graze dodging is also here. It allows you to dodge through an enemy attack, only to circle back and counter them from behind! You can also use it to dodge otherwise unavoidable assaults from your foes.

Gensokyo Night Festival‘s new Stage 2 update adds the Flare ability to help you see in the many dark areas of the former capital (a dark place deep underground). Rin Kaenbyou and Utsuho Reiuji appear as bosses, and mini bosses lurk in wait as well. You’ll find a number of Touhou chibi characters scattered around the map in this update. They can be gathered at the Hakurei Shrine, and more will be added later in the Stage 3 update (one of which will be chosen by popular vote). By popular request, keyboard configuration is also now here. The press release also says that another smaller update is coming sometime in September, which will adjust boss balance and add a new attack for Okuu and Orin.

If you’d like to vote for the chibi character that will be chosen by popular vote, just go to the Steam news post for this update for more information, and vote by posting there. Lastly, the press release mentions that the next major update will take place in Youkai Mountain and Heaven.

Michael is a veteran gamer in his late 30s, who grew up around video games, with fond memories of the oldies like the NES, SNES, and N64 among others. He loves Nintendo, but also plays a lot of games on his PC. Michael also enjoys going for walks/bike rides, loves animals, and enjoys thunderstorms (and science in general). I love Nintendo but I also play a lot of game's on PC, many of which are on steam. My favorite Nintendo game's include Zelda, Metroid, and Smash Bros to name a few. On PC I love the Half-Life games, as well as most all of the Source Engine games just to name a few.
