Tekken 7 Noctis introduction

Bandai Namco is back at it again with surprising guest characters for Tekken 7, with a new announcement trailer coming out of the Tekken World Tour. Following Street Fighter’s Akuma and Fatal Fury’s Geese Howard, the newest announcement for the fighting game is Final Fantasy XV’s protagonist Noctis Lucis Caelum.

The trailer can be seen below:

Noctis seems to fight with a variety of different weapons and magic, as well as warp-strikes, similar to how he fights in Final Fantasy XV. It will be interesting to see how it works compared to the other characters in Tekken 7, very few of whom use weapons. He will come with his own stage as well when he releases in spring of 2018.

It’s no secret that this is an incredibly unexpected announcement. The primarily weapon-based fighter Noctis seems like an odd fit for a largely martial arts-based game like Tekken 7, and while surprising guest characters aren’t exactly something new for the game – or Bandai Namco’s games in general, such as Link in the GameCube version of Soulcalibur II – the guests in Tekken 7 have previously been from other fighting game series. Noctis’ inclusion seems to open the floodgates for possible future guests, both as a weapon user and as a character from a non-fighting game series.
