Episode 06: Gessen Takes the Stage

Welcome back to more Senran Kagura: Peach Beach Splash!

Today we begin the Gessen Arc of Story Mode. What starts off as Yumi wondering why she’s always put in these lewd situations, quickly turns into heart-pounding excitement for the normally calm Yamato Nadeshiko. However, it seems that not all is well as Shiki is hiding something… and Minori finds out.

It’s another water-gun filled episode as the Gessen girls take on the P-1 Grand Prix!

Additional Thoughts and Notes

Gessen, and by extension Yumi, is one of the most divisive parts of Senran Kagura. My own opinion is that while a lot of the complaints are valid, there is a good character there. Like I say in the video, a lot of Yumi’s problems are marketing ones.

Since she’s such a Yamato Nadeshiko she’s extremely popular among Japanese males. Which means they market the hell out of her in stuff like New Wave. Which upsets Western fans since we feel there’s an oversaturation of her. That said, she does have a lot of good character growth and I liked her arc in Estival Versus. Here though…

Sadly, the start of the Gessen Arc is not amazing. It’s a bit slow and compared to Hebijo, it’s not even in the same ballpark. However, we still have the second half of their story to get through. Perhaps it’ll get better. We’ll have to see next time.
