Atsushi Abe (voice of Kamijo Toma) and Yuka Iguchi (voice of Index) confirmed that they would be reprising their roles in the third season.

A Certain Magical Index is written by Kazuma Kamachi and illustrated by Kiyotaka Haimura. The light novel ran for a total of 25 volumes and now has a sequel series in publication. The sequel is written and illustrated by the same team and is titled New Testament: A Certain Magical Index.

The light novel series is very popular and has spawned multiple anime as well as two spin-off manga. The original light novels received three anime adaptations which included two seasons of TV anime and an animated film. The film was released in 2013 and was titled A Certain Magical Index: The Movie – The Miracle of Endymion. It has been 4 years since we have last seen an anime based on the original light novels.

The manga spin-off, A Certain Scientific Railgun, has also been adapted into two anime seasons. The second spin-off, A Certain Scientific Accelerator, has yet to receive an anime.
