Are you ready for some futbol? Well too bad, since our audience could care less about sports. So I’ll just be politely ignoring EA Sports FIFA 18 and covering the games that actually matter. And there’s a lot to cover today, despite an utter lack of bargain titles courtesy of the Game Guide malfunctioning. Today My Nintendo is actually offering free games instead of just discounts, plus there are some interesting niche titles to talk about. Let’s see what’s worth playing, shall we?

Nintendo Download | Golf Story

We may not cover true sports games, but I wager Golf Story isn’t quite that. This indie RPG is something totally strange and different, even though it does involve putting golf balls and fighting angry geese. This golf RPG might be the closest we’ve come to EarthBound madness since Undertale, and Golf Story might be worth checking out on Nintendo Switch. A much easier game to suggest is Yo-Kai Watch 2: Psychic Specters. If you missed the original Yo-Kai Watch 2 (both versions of it) this one is the comprehensive version, loaded with new content as well. Best of all, it launches tomorrow, so you won’t have to wait long to delve into this ghostly RPG world once more.

Nintendo Download | Runner 2

If you have a My Nintendo account and have been lamenting the ability to translate your points into actual games, instead of mere discounts, today is a day to be excited about…somewhat. My Nintendo is offering Ninde Game Gold Point Rewards, which lets you trade your Gold Points for actual indie games. The catch is what Nintendo counts as an indie. That said, there is at least one legitimately great game here, as well as some that are more suspect. Here’s the list of games you can currently pick up – Bit.Trip Presents Runner 2: Future Legend of Rhythm Alien (Wii U); Zen Pinball 3D (3DS); Super Little Acorns 3D Turbo (3DS) and Art of Balance (Wii U). You might have noticed none of those are for Switch, but I would venture we might be getting those options at a later date. If nothing else, I highly recommend picking up Runner 2, especially since Runner3 is just around the corner!

Nintendo Download | SNES Classic

Nintendo has seen fit to remind us about the SNES Classic Edition is launching tomorrow, and in honor of that bittersweet reminder they are offering some retro rewards via My Nintendo. You can pick up a SNES Classic Edition wallpaper, a Jumping Mario 3DS theme, get Ultimate NES Remix for 40% off or NES Remix Pack for 30% off. And since Star Fox 2 is packaged in the SNES Classic Edition, there are some foxy rewards as well. You can get 30% off Star Fox Zero and Star Fox 64 3D, as well as 40% off Star Fox Command.

If you find yourself playing a ton of Fire Emblem Heroes, you might be interested in the following event.

Fire Emblem Heroes – Special Heroes are Here! – As part of the “Performing Arts” Summoning Event, running from Sept. 29 at 12 a.m. PT until Oct. 29 at 11:59 p.m. PT, receive special heroes that are part of a 5★ Focus. Add Azura: Lady of Ballads, Olivia: Festival Dancer, Shigure: Dark Sky Singer or Inigo: Indigo Dancer to the team and use their Sing and Dance skills to give other units an extra action in battle. No Orbs are needed for the first summon.

Nintendo Download | Deemo

Right now you might be worried that’s all to play this week, but there is a surprising amount of new digital games to check out today. As usual, I have culled the weakest entries from the list, and am only including those I believe our readers might be interested in. First up is Tower of Babel (Switch), a strange heroic quest with you as a valiant knight; for those hankering for a new puzzle experience, you might be drawn to Inversus Deluxe (Switch); if you demand more ACA NEOGEO goodness, Burning Fight (Switch) has you covered; if you want something totally strange, you should take a look at the awkwardly named Brave Dungeon + Dark Witch Story: Combat (Switch); for rhythm maniacs, Deemo (Switch) looks like a curious and fascinating new title; if you enjoyed the original Lovers in a Dangerous Spacetime, it’s heading to the Switch next week; for those who adore beautiful platformers, Pankapu (Switch) is promising; if you need more anime pirates, One Piece: Unlimited World Red: Deluxe hits the eShop tomorrow; Binaries (Switch) looks like a great trigger happy puzzle experience; for fans of brutal pixel mayhem, Butcher (Switch) looks quite compelling; and last but not least, if you want alien mashing mayhem on your Wii U, Hive Jump finally hits that system today! I told you there was a lot of games, and that’s not even including a handful of unworthy titles. Who says there’s nothing to play on Nintendo’s newest console?

So despite no Game Guide, this was a fantastic week to be a fan of Nintendo. Stay tuned to oprainfall for more Nintendo Download next time, and let us know which games you’re most excited to play!
