Necrosphere - Necrontroller

Necrosphere - Necrontroller

According to a new press release, Caio Lopez, the lead designer behind Necrosphere and Cat Nigiri’s games, has created a special handcrafted controller for Necrosphere. Cat Nigiri is an independent game development studio located in Brazil. Known as the Necontroller, it will be celebrating the upcoming launch of the game at the start of September. Being handcrafted, it will obviously be available in limited numbers. So how do you get one?

There are two answers. One is that you take part in the creator’s Necontroller Challenge. There, you will compete against other speed runners and post a video or screenshot of your finishing time. The player with the best finishing time will be the winner and get a Necontroller sent to them with shipping costs paid by the developers. The competition will end on September 30th. Alternatively, you can send them an email and order one of these special controllers without taking part in the contest. For all information on the competition, visit the Necontroller Challenge webpage. It also lists their email address if you just want to order a Necontroller rather than competing for it.

With their array of only three buttons, these controllers highlight the simplicity of Necrosphere‘s controller scheme. You can only move left or right, and the third button is the start/pause button. There are elements in the game that let you do other things, but the controls are minimalist, and great for its challenging gameplay. The Necontroller has a USB connector that allows it to effortlessly plug into your PC. The creator explained at BIG Festival in São Paulo, Brazil one of his reasons behind creating this hand-made controller:

“I was tired of telling people you can only use left and right to play. So, I built this controller.”

Here are some more images showing what the inside of the Necontroller looks like:

Necrosphere is set to launch on September 1st, and our review of the game will be coming soon. The game will be available on Steam, GameJolt, and itch.io for both PC and Mac. It will sell for $4.99, and have a deluxe version that includes an ultra-hard bonus level and the sound track. The deluxe version will be priced at $7.98. If you want to play Necrosphere on Linux, Xbox One, PlayStation 4, or PlayStation Vita, you’ll have to wait a bit longer until those versions launch. They are set to launch by the final quarter of 2017.

About Necrosphere

Necrosphere is a challenging 2D Metroidvania game with the difficulty ramped up to the extreme. A battle for survival in the depths of hell itself, with the focus on exploring level after deviously difficult level, escaping the vast array of traps that lie in wait.

Necrosphere will have its official launch on Steam, Game Jolt e and itch.io on September 1, 2017. It will be available for Windows and Mac. It’s base price is set at $4,99 and the Deluxe version (which includes an ultra-difficult bonus level and the original soundtrack) at $7,98. The Linux, Xbox One, PS4 and PS Vita versions are planned to be released by the final quarter of 2017.

Michael Fontanini
Michael is a veteran gamer in his late 30s, who grew up around video games, with fond memories of the oldies like the NES, SNES, and N64 among others. He loves Nintendo, but also plays a lot of games on his PC. Michael also enjoys going for walks/bike rides, loves animals, and enjoys thunderstorms (and science in general). I love Nintendo but I also play a lot of game's on PC, many of which are on steam. My favorite Nintendo game's include Zelda, Metroid, and Smash Bros to name a few. On PC I love the Half-Life games, as well as most all of the Source Engine games just to name a few.
