How about that E3? Though I didn’t have high hopes for it initially, there were some great surprises from all the conferences (well, except maybe Ubisoft). Hell, even Microsoft and the PC conference revealed some games I’m looking forward to playing. But I think that for me personally, the presentation that stole the show was once more Nintendo’s E3 Direct and subsequent Treehouse coverage. They managed to show a bunch of games I am now excited for, release dates for big titles such as Super Mario Odyssey and even revealed what I’ve desperately wanted for years now – a new 2D Metroid experience! Not to mention a new Prime reveal out of nowhere. There’s a lot to look forward to for Nintendo gamers, but today I’m gonna focus on what’s just around the corner, not months or more away. Let’s see what’s good this week!

Let’s start with a bang (or would punch to the face be more appropriate?). ARMS finally releases tomorrow for the Switch, and if the Treehouse footage of that fantastic new IP didn’t get you excited, nothing will. I’ve been calling it the Splatoon of Punch-Out!! for a while now, and I can’t wait to get my mitts on it. However, if you’re looking forward to playing something new today, might I recommend Mighty Gunvolt Burst? Not to be confused as a simple remake of the original Mighty Gunvolt game, this is more of a sequel / reimagining of the original with far more features and content. I myself have been playing it for review, and I highly recommend it to retro gaming enthusiasts and Mega Man fans. You can find out more when my review goes live tomorrow. Lastly, next Tuesday Cave Story+ comes out for the Switch. While this isn’t the first time that classic game has been remade, this one looks pretty sexy, especially since it has a physical edition with bonus goodies. Oh and if that wasn’t enough, Runbow Pocket (and the Deluxe edition) finally graces the 3DS on the same exact day, so you’ll have plenty to keep yourselves occupied.

Nintendo is offering fans lots of sales during E3, lasting until next week. Some of these are pretty steep, up to 50% off, and they are all pretty great games. Some of the highlights are the 3DS Smash Bros. for $27.99; Paper Mario: Color Splash for $41.99; A Link to the Past half off for $3.99; Ultimate NES Remix for $20.99; Persona Q for $19.99; Mario & Luigi: Paper Jam for $27.99 and Senran Kagura 2: Deep Crimson for $14.99. Finally, there are some new digital games to check out this week. The ACA NEOGEO series has released SENGOKU, which has you play as a cowboy or ninja to fight angry ghosts (not joking). There is also the supremely strange Mutant Alien Moles of the Dead, a sort of Whack a Mole on drugs for Wii U. Beyond that, nothing of note was released this week.
