If you’re anything like me, you’re starting to get excited for Halloween. Sure, most of us are too old to dress up and go trick or treating these days, but that doesn’t mean we can’t still celebrate the holiday! And what better way than to find some thematically appropriate video games to gorge ourselves with? This week, Nintendo has some spooky themed releases and sales, as well as a couple of interesting outlier games. Let’s see what they have brewing in that witch’s cauldron, shall we?

Corpse Party 3DS

Okay let’s get the first sad outlier out of the way. Newly released this week on Wii U is Just Dance 2017. Cause nothing is scarier than a new silly dance party game, am I right? Moving on, there is one fantastic new horror game this week, and that is none other than Corpse Party on the 3DS! I’ve been interested in getting into this series for a while, and this might be the release to make it happen. But you’ll get more details about this version of Corpse Party when our review goes live later on. Also, one fun game that isn’t technically horror but still creepy is the release of Lost in Shadow on the Wii U Virtual Console. I reviewed this one back in the day, and found it to be a fascinating and atmospheric adventure about a boy whose shadow gets separated from him, and the journey back to its body. Definitely recommend you check that one out!

See? Corpse nugget…

There are also a bunch of games on sale this week, but I’m mostly gonna focus on the spooky (never spoopy) ones. There are a handful I would recommend for both Wii U and 3DS. Firstly, Resident Evil Revelations is discounted to $9.99 for Wii U and $4.99 for 3DS. Next, you can snag the fun indie game Extreme Exorcism for almost half off! Resident Evil 3D: The Mercenaries is incredibly affordable at $4.99, but best off all, you can pick up Dementium Remastered for $7.49. That is one of the best terror focused games available on Nintendo, so I strongly suggest you pick that one up if you haven’t already. On a lesser note, there is a new Halloween based Mario Theme in the eShop, and there is also National StreetPass Weekend: Halloween Edition going on. If you stop by one of 29,000 Nintendo Hot Spots, you can snag up to 6 StreetPass tags. Additionally, StreetPass features for various games are available, so if you own Disney Magical World 2, YO-KAI WATCH 2: Bony Spirits, YO-KAI WATCH 2: Fleshy Souls, Dragon Quest VII: Fragments of the Forgotten Past, Monster Hunter Generations, Shovel Knight and others, you should be carrying around your 3DS this weekend!

Last but not least, there a couple of noteworthy new releases this week. I know I said spooky only, but I think PixelMaker looks to be a fascinating game on the 3DS; There is also the totally odd looking Demonic Karma Summoner, which looks like Pokémon by way of The Nightmare Before Christmas. Finally, there is a truly great looking indie game called Ectoplaza which releases on the Wii U (even if the console is dead, everything comes back to life this weekend)! That’s it for this week. Have a great weekend, and check back with us next week at oprainfall for the latest Nintendo Download!
