HTC Vive

A representative for HTC has given us a figure for how many of their VR headsets have been sold. The representative, Cher Wang said that currently the Vive has sold over 140,000 units. Back in August the number was around 100,000. It might be worth remembering that the Vive does cost more than the recently released PlayStation VR which is estimated to sell more than 2 million units by the year’s end.

So what do you guys think about the number? Do any of you have Vive, or something else like PlayStation VR?

About Walter P

Plays too much, but still has too many games to finish. Will play any type of game and will watch anything, so is of course not good at being productive. Loves anything crazy.

Recently PSVR sold about 50K in Japan, so my guess is that the numbers will be similar for all headsets. This is good, since it will create some healthy competition.

I have PSVR and I’m sold on the concept of VR. There are some interesting experiences that can be achieved with it.

Competition is always good, imo, but I don’t know if that is a positive sales figure for them or not.

That PSVR number seems awfully optimistic, however. I may get it down the line but not during the holiday season.

These headsets still have a long way to go. It’s up to developers to create meaningful experiences. There are tons of shovelware being forced out there that aren’t as fun as WiiSports and can be completed in less than 30 minutes. Enough of the ooo aaah! , standing still / teleporting and shooting. We need more Elite Dangerous, Onward etc.
