NieR: Automata | Black Box Edition

At TGS 2016, Square Enix announced a special Black Box Edition for NieR: Automata. This edition will cost ¥ 25,800 and will come with a bunch of special goodies.

The first thing it will come with is a scale figure of YoRHa No.2 Type B, the protagonist of the game. It will stand approximately 15 cm tall. You can check that out below.

The Black Box Edition will come with a special Music Concert and Talk Live Soundtrack. This was recorded from a live NieR music concert held in April 2016. You can check that out below.

  • Mr0303

That’s quite expensive, but everything is this edition is pretty stylish.

    • Panpopo

Yes, some really cool stuff here. I like the figure, and the novella reminds me of Drakengard 3’s CE. I hope the west gets a collector’s edition like this as well.

  • Klagmar

That’s awesome, but I don’t think it’s worth as much as they’re asking. Similar collector’s editions usually sell in the $125 – $150 range. The figure is pretty small, too.

    • JPAR

Japanese figures of that size and detail level (usually): $60-80
Artbooks: $30-40 (Most Japanese artbooks are softcover; hardcover artbooks are a rare occurrence in the market)
      Japanese concert CDs: $40-50
“Recollection book”: Likely valued around the $20-ish range

So, at the very least, we’re talking about $150 worth in extras. Add in the price of the game (Note: High-profile Japanese PS4 games usually run for $70-80) and we’re looking at (again, at least) $220. Factor in a several more bucks for the fancy box and the sheer size of the overall package.

I don’t want to sound like a dick, but don’t complain about it by saying the price of this edition should cost less than the estimated value of the extras alone. Things add up.
