Hot Lava

Hot Lava

No doubt many of you may have memories of playing a little game called “The Floor is Lava” as a kid. It was a game where you’d hop around on the furniture, avoiding the floor since the floor is lava. You may have done this on many summer afternoons back in the day, but what does that have to do with this article? Well, Klei Entertainment (best known for their survival game, Don’t Starve), are working on a new game called Hot Lava. The trailer strongly evokes those childhood memories of lazy summer afternoons, toys, and that game where the floor was lava.

You can see in the image above and in the trailer that the character has visible screws in his arms and looks like plastic. This makes him look just like the toys we used to play with back in those carefree days. So Klei Entertainment is paying homage to those lazy summer afternoons of childhood in a big way with this new project. Check out the trailer and take a trip back in time for a moment:

It’s also quite interesting to note that Hot Lava is Klei Entertainment’s first foray into the realm of 3D game development. Through their previous games, the studio has become well-known for creating very expressive and colorful art styles and animation. As you can see in the trailer, the gameplay is first-person parkour, a genre that could certainly use more games. Hot Lava looks to be packed with fun, and a unique take on parkour.

Parkour is generally a much more realistic take on platforming in video games. The character’s movements and the things he/she is doing are generally much more realistic than in the platforming games of old. These would be games like Mario and Sonic the Hedgehog. Do you like parkour (as seen in games like Assassin’s Creed) or the platforming style of those older classic games? Let us know in the poll below!

Sorry, there are no polls available at the moment.

Michael is a veteran gamer in his late 30s, who grew up around video games, with fond memories of the oldies like the NES, SNES, and N64 among others. He loves Nintendo, but also plays a lot of games on his PC. Michael also enjoys going for walks/bike rides, loves animals, and enjoys thunderstorms (and science in general). I love Nintendo but I also play a lot of game's on PC, many of which are on steam. My favorite Nintendo game's include Zelda, Metroid, and Smash Bros to name a few. On PC I love the Half-Life games, as well as most all of the Source Engine games just to name a few.
