I decided to review Pixel Galaxy quite frankly because it needed to be done and it looked like something that wouldn’t take me 40 hours to complete. I really had no idea what the hell was going on when I went and looked at a trailer for it. I thought ‘ohh well let’s give it a try.’ Little did I know what I was in for!

In Pixel Galaxy you’re a white pixel. Bullets destroy you, and you collect friends to help you. Your friends are colorful dots that shoot for you. As enemies appear onscreen and try to take you out, your friends shoot them. Well, they will as long as you maneuver around the screen well enough that you don’t get them killed. Please don’t kill your friends. It isn’t nice and you need them!

To destroy your enemies you just move the white pixel that now has plenty of friends surrounding it and let the friends bullets do the job. Each level has a boss where you need to destroy the core to pass onto the next level. I love the level names. Normalest anyone?

There are six different modes and bosses galore! There is also a local co-op function that I did not get to try out. You both collect pixels and when one of you dies the other can revive you just by touching your pixel. Each new wave is randomly generated so no two playthroughs will be the same. You won’t be memorizing any patterns here!

Graphically this is very simple but so pretty! Pixel Galaxy is a perfect name for this title. It is literally blocky pixels on a screen. How they managed to make the most basic of blocks look this good I will never know. Granted it isn’t like staring at a fine piece of art, but let’s give credit where it’s due. It actually gets mesmerizing as the enemies are flying about and shooting at you. My first few minutes when I go back and play again I always end up staring in awe when a lot is going on on the screen. It gets me killed but is totally worth it.

The music is groovy as hell. You find yourself wanting to move faster and faster. Wanting to collect friends to help you and destroy your enemy swiftly and justly! Even the bleeps and blops on the menu screen are inviting and make you feel like you are playing an old school style arcade game or something.

The best way I can describe this game is as the weirdest bullet hell game I have ever played. The premise here is so basic and so addictive that I almost didn’t want to start it back up for a refresher before I wrote the review. I knew what would (and did happen) I ended up playing for quite some time before coming back to this review. If that isn’t high praise I don’t know what is. I have probably spent 20-30 hours playing this game easily and I will continue to do so. For the price point of $9.99, you will definitely get your money worth.
