I decided to review Yama Yama because it was something a little different from what I had been playing lately. Mostly I had been going through major story driven RPGs or playing VN’s. I figure it is always good to switch it up. Plus, when we were talking about me doing the review and what type of game it was, I kept flashing back to multiplayer games with my brothers. Even in games that were not designed for you to necessarily kill each other, we would find creative ways to do so! Now here was a game that encouraged me to do whatever it took to get my opponent out of the picture and get the win.

YAMA YAMA | Madness

The controls are on point! I used the keyboard and a PS3 controller and both were very responsive. This is pretty important in a game that sometimes only gives you a very small space to move in, or that requires you quickly move to a small safe space when the rest of the screen is electrified or worse. Every game mode utilizes the fatsuit ability, which pushes other players out of the way with force.

Visually this is a goofy looking game and I loved to see what each new stage would bring me. The visuals fit right in with the overall theme of the game. Each stage has its own feel while the overall look definitely fits the game. Each stage isn’t vastly different but it is different enough that you realize you are on another stage, though it all goes together well. One stage doesn’t look like it’s in HD while the next looks like a crayon drawing I guess is what I want to say. Even the characters are funny to look at!

YAMA YAMA | Goofy

There are a bunch of different stages to get through. Each has the same idea. Win! Each level offers you a new way to win by getting a high score. You have to find a way around or through your opponents to stop them from scoring and you yourself getting the high score. Some stages time you while others require a certain score to pass. It is always really easy to figure out what they want you to do. In the one stage, you are surfing on what appears to be a never-ending river and you need to avoid the logs that come at you. Don’t forget to put your fatsuit on and bump your opponent into oblivion.

Yama Yama | River

The games are all simple yet ridiculously fun. You can sit and play for hours on end or just pick it up for a few moments here and there with your favorite multiplayer friend who you love to find new ways to kill! You can play through the full array of different levels or you can put it on custom where it will randomly give you levels to play. You can also set up a time limit where you play for however long and see who has the highest score.

Yama Yama | Level

The soundtrack for this game is as goofy as the game itself. Now please note when I say goofy I don’t mean this in a bad way. I like goofy! I think we all need a bit more goofy in our lives. Since hearing it for yourself is so much better than anything I could say, check out the multiplayer mayhem video at the end of this review.

When I played online multiplayer was not available, and still may not be. This isn’t the completed game so we will have to wait til they finish before we can do that. You will need at least 2 players to play and can have up to four. I did however not experience any glitches in my time with this title.

YAMA YAMA | Skate

I spent probably 10ish hours playing but playtime with this title is limitless with a high replay value. The developers are constantly adding more levels and really improving every aspect as they go. You can always set things up differently, find a new person to play with, and find new ways to kill each other .. err I mean to win! For $6.99 Early Access on Steam, it is definitely worth it if you have that person (or people) who you just love to beat in casual fun games. This title won’t be for everyone as I realize not everyone likes more casual or “party games” but at the end of the day it embraces what it is and offers up a lot of fun.
