Well as it would turn out Sonic Mania wasn’t the only big announcement Sega had up their sleeves during Sonic’s big 25th birthday stream. They also showed off a new trailer for a game that for now is simply known as Project Sonic 2017.
We didn’t get any gameplay this time but it seems to take place in some dystopian setting where Doctor Eggman rules with an iron fist! It’s up to Sonic and ….Sonic (in classic form.) to stop him.
The inclusion of both modern and classic Sonic leads me to believe this will be a game much like Sonic Generations in that it will feature both 3D Sonic Colors like levels along with the 2D platforming of classic Sonic. This however is just speculation for now.
No hard release date yet of course, but according to the trailer it’ll be out for PS4, XBox One, NX, and PC sometime during the holiday season of 2017. Checkout the trailer below:
