Today, Viz announced that they will be releasing free chapters of Shonen Jump manga daily. With this new site, you do not need to be a subscriber in order to read any of these select chapters. Those who are already subscribers, however, will still receive their usual manga the same day as Japan.

Viz provided a list of the Shonen Jump titles that will be part of the free manga program:

  • Blue Exorcist
  • Boruto: Naruto Next Generation
  • Boys Over Flowers Season 2
  • Dragon Ball Super
  • The Emperor and I
  • Haikyu!!
  • Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure: Part 1 Phantom Blood
  • Kuroko’s Basketball
  • Naruto: The Path Lit by the Full Moon
  • One-Punch Man
  • Tokyo Ghoul [Jack]

However, it appears that some chapters have expiration dates for when they will be pulled from the site, such as One-Punch Man, so be sure to read what you want while you can.

That’s a great way to get people interested in a particular manga. I also didn’t realise that Dragon Ball Super has a manga – if it is anything like the anime it is horror incarnate.

The manga is generally the same, it’s lagging behind the anime a bit, but there’s some subtle differences. Also Super’s animation quality has gotten a lot better. There’s still some questionable moments, but overall it’s way better than it used to be. Also the BluRays have repairs on them. In terms of the story, well to each his own. There’s some great moments that make it worthwhile I think though. Like Goku and Piccolo sitting on the roof together playing with Pan.

To be honest the animation quality was never an issue for me. It is the story and characters that I absolutely hate. I am (or was I suppose) a huge Dragon Ball fan and what they are doing in Super is frustrating me.

Beerus is an absolute arse and the story is focused on him. He is a downright villain destroying planets because he doesn’t like the food that they have. It is the equivalent of nuking the UK because of their poor culinary choices – come on.

I drew the line the moment they started retconning stuff. Frieza blew up planet Vegeta because Beerus told him to do it? Bullshit. Later on I learned that Beerus did this because King Vegeta refused to give him the most comfortable pillow. WTF! But we should treat Beerus as chaotic neutral and part of the good guys even.

It was painful for me to watch any further so I dropped it and pretend that GT is canon.
