The Surge Title

Just because E3 is coming to a close doesn’t mean that we’re not getting The Surge of new trailers. While our italicized friend might be some decent wordplay, it’s also a sci-fi RPG with beefy character models being developed by Deck13. Here you play as a laborer utilizing your versatile exoskeleton in order to undo the damage done by the actions of a mega corporation. CREO started off altruistic, trying to repair the damage done to our atmosphere due to global warming but unsurprisingly something went off the rails. But you won’t be using your standard set of guns and grenades here; The Surge features makeshift weapons all crafted for close combat. There will be a ‘dismembering system’ to tear apart your robotic foes. The game will drop on PC, Xbox One, and PS4 in 2017. The full press release awaits dissection below.

The Surge E3 Trailer Reveals a Dystopian World Set in the Near-Future

The Surge is the newest sci-fi Action RPG set in the near-future from developer Deck13. Slice and dismember your way deeper and deeper into CREO, an institution developed to save the world, but with disastrous consequences. The E3 Trailer introduces to a dystopian world based on a worst case scenario for Earth.

Members of CREO’s workforce are fitted with expandable, powered exo-suits supplying the employee with both power and super-human strength. They are also able to attach new practical tool extensions to the exoskeleton.

Something in CREO went horribly wrong, and you as the player must use this exo-suit and a plethora of make-shift weapons and armor upgrades to survive. Slice and smash deeper and deeper into the mysterious mega-corporation to discover what happened, and how you can stop it.

In the E3 trailer, fight for the first time with our reluctant hero, discovering a few of the exo-suit modules that you can equip and upgrade. With a heavy emphasis on environmental storytelling and Deck13’s classic duel-style combat system expanded and enhanced with unique limb targeting mechanics, there are thousands of combinations of armor and make-shift weapons to dismantle, craft, and merge with your exo-suit.

Exploit the synergy of man and machine when The Surge releases in 2017 on consoles and PC.

About The Surge

The Game

Set in a heavily dystopian future as Earth nears the end of its life, those who remain in the overpopulated cities must work to survive as social programs become saturated by an ageing population and increasing environmental diseases.

As the intelligence of technology incrementally increased over the years, many jobs for the human race had been made redundant, forcing Earth’s citizens to head out into the suburbs seeking labor, aided by exoskeletons to improve their efficiency. The world of The Surge offers a very grim vision of the future, where the evolution of our technology, our society and our relation with the environment led to a decadent state of the Human civilization.

The Surge features innovative combat mechanics and an original character progression system based on modular upgrades gained through tight, visceral combat. Be sure to stay tuned for more about The Surge over the coming months!
