With a lot of games looking super realistic with their first or third person perspectives it’s nice to see a game like Tyranny represent the earlier, isometric days of PC gaming. Obsidian’s and Paradox Interactive’s latest hack and slash title will put players as ‘enforcers’ who can either uphold the law given from up high or turn into a tyrant and become the law. Unfortunately not much else is known about the story but some vague notions of a country ruled by a totalitarian regime were shown in the graphic novel-esque cut scenes.

Tyranny

The gameplay was even more fleeting than that of the narrative with only a few seconds here and there of creatures getting chopped down by a gaggle of heroes. It looks like you can have at least 4 people as part of your party and one of those members can be a freaking werewolf! The battle scenes look chaotic but eye-catching and the camera is shown to pan back at times possibly to reveal more of your surroundings.

Tyranny

Given Obsidian’s track record and my love of isometric games, I hope to see more Tyranny. There’s no set release date for the game other than ‘coming soon’ but it will definitely be releasing for the PC.
