After seeing a large number of derivative visual novels flooding into Western shores, a brave new game called D.T. is here to shake things up through first time developer It’s Raining Games Studio. Hallelujah! This is the dating simulator we’ve all been waiting for. But honestly since this one pushes the boundaries so much it’s impossible to call it a date sim anymore.

This game tells the story of the aptly named ‘Protagonist’ (the devs explain you’ll be able to choose your name and your gender) and you’re just a normal student in your standard Japanese high school. But your suitor is a rich ouji who obsesses about you constantly and thinks that he can buy and own you. There is no wooing here; it’s the opposite. Yes, this is the first Dumping Simulator and it’s just incredible that this concept has never been done before! It’s Raining Games Studio promises that there will be branching dialogue where you are trying to ‘scare away the anti-love interest’ and your choices will effect if you are successful or not. There will be multiple endings and some major secrets hidden within.

It’s Raining Games Studio also gave some hints about the music that we could expect and hinted at the possibility of voice over work. ‘For the soundtrack we’re looking for themes that can lull you into a false sense of security and others that make you want to stand up on your feet and fight.’ The devs said that because they were exploring new avenues for the dating sim genre, that they wanted to explore more controversial means of voice acting. ‘We were sitting around thinking ‘Why don’t we get a businessman to do this role? Why don’t we get a politician? They’re pretty much putting on a show for the whole world.’

The devs were also kind enough to give us a song of their soundtrack composed by the up-and-coming music producer Chris MelchinArrogant Extension has a deceptively jaunty piano part fused with chiptunes that harken back to the early days of visual novels.

Other details are scarce at this point put the devs have released a few character sketches in different forms of completion and a teaser trailer. They say that a demo should be out in the next few months and they want the full product released in summer 2016 on PC. Of course we’ll be there to cover all the news for D.T. and we’re ready to usher in the evolution of the dating sim genre!

Disclaimer: Some oprainfall staff have worked on, kickstartered, crowdfunded, given to a Super PAC, chopped off their own thumb to make D.T. a reality. Actually, It’s Raining Games Studio is a subsidiary of oprainfall even though we don’t know what ‘subsidiary’ means. Really, you should probably already know that this is a work of satire and is here to celebrate April 1st. We hope you enjoyed our silly little project. Who knows, you might see more of D.T. down the line...
