Playstation VR Preorder Bundle

Today the Official Playstation Blog announced that starting at 7:00 a.m. PT on Tuesday, March 22nd, pre-orders will open for the PlayStation VR Launch Bundle at participating retailers. The pre-order bundle, shown above, will include:

  • All contents of the PS VR core bundle:
    • PS VR headset
    • PS VR cables
    • Stereo Headphones
    • PlayStation VR Demo Disc
  • PlayStation Camera
  • 2 PlayStation Move motion controllers
  • PlayStation VR Worlds (disc)

You will be able to use this link to the official Sony store to purchase it there, but it will not be available until Tuesday. This is the $499.99 bundle ($699.99 CA), and the blog states that the core edition for $399.99 (without the Eye or the Move controllers) will not be available for pre-order. There is no indication if that will change prior to release, or if it is only unavailable for the first few rounds of pre-orders. They do state, however, that this is only the first batch of limited quantities, and a second pre-order round will take place in the summer.

Let us know in the comments if you are planning on a purchase, or if you only need the core edition so you are going to wait? For me, I have to wait to scrape together the cash, but I’ll need the full edition. I never got into the PS Eye or the Move, but Playstation VR intrigues me. So you’ll be hearing more about Playstation VR in the upcoming months here at Operation Rainfall.

About William Haderlie

Born in the 1970's, I've been an avid participant for much of video game history. A lifetime of being the sort of supergeek entrenched in the sciences and mathematics has not curbed my appreciation for the artistry of video games, cinema, and especially literature.

Putting only the bundle for preorder is a bit of a weird move. It kind of ignores the people who already have the camera or Move controllers.

I agree that it is an unfortunate decision. But it’s also not the first time we’ve seen this. Console pre-orders have been only in bundle form a few times in the last few years.

That’s rather strange. In my local retailer you could preorder just the base unit and upgrade to a bundle at a later stage. Eventually most day 1 buyers will get a bundle with a couple of games, but putting the extra hardware in it doesn’t seem practicle. I’m sure at a later date more options will appear.
