Nintendo released some new event courses for Super Mario Maker today. There are six in all, and they unlock four new costumes. The “Paranormal Research” level, unlocks a costume straight out of Luigi’s Mansion that lets you play as Professor E. Gadd himself. The “I Choose You” event course can unlock three different costumes depending on which one you finish the level with. These three new costumes are of course in celebration of Pokémon‘s anniversary, and they are the three starters from Pokémon Red and Pokémon Blue (or Pokémon Green in Japan).

In addition to those two levels, Nintendo released a set of four event courses that they created for the Tokaigi 2016 contest. These levels are a good bit more challenging than most of the event courses we’ve seen. The first Tokaigi 2016 course currently has a clear rate of only 2.01%. Having cleared all six of Nintendo’s new event courses myself, I can say that these four Tokaigi courses are challenging, but well designed. The key here is that they’re hard but not frustrating. The only reward for beating them is just the satisfaction of conquering them, but that’s not a bad thing!

So if you haven’t already, go fire up Super Mario Maker and try out the new event courses and of course unlock those four new costumes!

Michael is a veteran gamer in his late 30s, who grew up around video games, with fond memories of the oldies like the NES, SNES, and N64 among others. He loves Nintendo, but also plays a lot of games on his PC. Michael also enjoys going for walks/bike rides, loves animals, and enjoys thunderstorms (and science in general). I love Nintendo but I also play a lot of game's on PC, many of which are on steam. My favorite Nintendo game's include Zelda, Metroid, and Smash Bros to name a few. On PC I love the Half-Life games, as well as most all of the Source Engine games just to name a few.
