Early 2015, Nintendo revealed that it was closing down Club Nintendo and replacing it with a brand new service, with the original service closing over the summer at different intervals for countries. Since then, there have been details about the successor program, now known as My Nintendo.

Like Club Nintendo, you will get points for games you play and register. New to this system is that you can get points from apps Nintendo sets up on your Smart devices. Platinum points give discounts on content downloads for Nintendo 3DS and Nintendo Wii U, like themes for the systems and digital content, which seems to be DLC. You earn Platinum points through playing apps, logging into the Nintendo eShop, and specific requirements that are unknown as of now. Gold points, used to get discounts on digital software on the eShop like Wii U and 3DS games, are earned by purchasing eShop digital content.

A lot of what’s shown mirrors features from Club Nintendo, such as Gold points being given for downloading content off the eShop like coins were, and how Platinum points seem to work. More details should be revealed sometime soon, as the service is set to launch sometime in March. The program will launch in 39 countries at the time, and will launch in others at some point. At the moment, one of the Smart device apps has been revealed, known as Mitomo.

Mitomo

Mitomo is a photo based app that requires a My Nintendo account, launching alongside My Nintendo in Japan mid-March. The app will allow users to take pictures with their Miis, and can be saved to their Smart devices. They can be sent to friends, and shared on social networks. More should be revealed about the app as we get updates about My Nintendo. You can pre-register for Mitomo on February 17.
