Famitsu has released some more specific details on the functionality of some of the compatible amiibo figures within Twilight Princess HD.

The Ganondorf amiibo, according to the report, will be used to increase the challenge of the game by doubling damage taken from attacks. Apparently when the effect is active, Link’s health bar will change color from the normal red to blue. And while other amiibo can only be used once per day, the Ganondorf will be usable any number of times per day. Famitsu specifies that it will make boss fights in particular significantly more difficult, but the game will give no extra reward for defeating bosses with the effect in place other than bragging rights.

The “Trial of the Beast” will most likely be just called that, without the “Thorough Battle” part, and will take place within a cave. Within the trial, the player cannot revert back to human form, meaning that they will not have access to Link’s normal items and equipment, including healing items. Each floor contains enemies, growing stronger as the player progresses, and certain floors will also have environmental hazards. If the player can clear all 40 floors of the cave while carrying the Giant’s Wallet, they will be rewarded with the Bottomless Wallet, which can hold up to 9,999 rupees, which Famitsu notes will dramatically increasing how long they can use the Magic Armor.

Information on journeys that can be stored within the Wolf Link amiibo is still somewhat vague. Famitsu says that the figure stores a number, and the “journey” can be continued from the title screen by scanning the amiibo. In the process, Link’s health will apparently be restored by an amount based on the number of hearts kept through the Trial of the Beast. What this all means remains to be seen, but we’ll know for sure at some point before Twilight Princess HD releases this coming March.
