Sailor Moon Crystal | Spring Premiere

The official website for Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon Crystal has announced that the third season for the anime will premiere in the Spring of 2016. Along with this news it was revealed that anime will have a new director and character designer.

Chiaki Kon is set to take over the role of director for Munehisa Sakai. Chiaki has previously worked on Nodame Cantabile: Paris, Junjou Romantica, and Golden Time. Akira Takahashi will take over Yukie Sato’s job in drawing the character designs. The rest of the staff is set to remain the same.

The cast from the previous season is also set to reprise their roles. They are as follows:

  • Kotono Misuishi as Usagi Tsukino/Sailor Moon
  • Hisako Kanemoto as Ami Mizuno/Sailor Mercury
  • Rina Satou as Rei Hino/Sailor Mars
  • Ami Koshimizu as Makoto Kino/Sailor Jupiter
  • Shizuka Itou as Minako Aino/Sailor Venus
  • Ryou Hirohashi as Luna
  • Kenji Nojima as Mamoru Chiba/Tuxedo Mask

The third season of the anime will cover the Death Busters arc. This arc covers the fifth and sixth volumes of Naoko Takeuchi’s Sailor Moon manga. This season will gather all 10 Senshi including the popular outer Senshi such as Sailor Uranus, Sailor Neptune, and Sailor Saturn.

The cast for the outer Senshi will be announced on January 27 in a special Niconico livestream.

The first 2 seasons of Sailor Moon Crystal were streamed on Crunchyroll, Niconico, Hulu and other services as the series aired in Japan. Both seasons of the anime are licensed for release in North America by Viz Media.
