Uncle Sam Needs You to Join oprainfall!

oprainfall is searching for volunteers to fill various openings we have for our website. Specifically, we are looking for news writers, authors, and editors. Volunteers will receive training in whichever position they sign up for. We ask that you give a minimum of one hour of your time each week. The ideal candidate would give two to four hours of their time each week. When applying, please tell us why you would be a perfect fit for the position you are volunteering for. Volunteers must be over the age of 18 and can live anywhere in the world with reliable Internet access. Brief training will be provided and will require approximately one hour of your time for four straight days, Monday through Thursday. Training will begin Monday, January 11th, and the deadline to apply is the same day.

If you’ve ever wanted to work on a website, this is your chance! Gain some writing experience you can add to your job résumé! Although these are strictly volunteer positions, we do occasionally offer perks for our best contributors, such as gift cards, and sometimes some free games. If you’re interested in joining us, check out the job descriptions below, then send us an e-mail at [email protected].

News Writers

Do you spend all day browsing video game websites and forums looking for the latest news? Why not do that and do something productive while you’re at it?! News writers look for the latest video game news around the Internet and write up a quick news piece informing all our readers.

Requirements: News writers must have good writing ability and comprehension of the English language. News writers will need to write at minimum Two relevant news items per week, which should take about an hour of your time. News writers will have access to our news tools and other press resources to help them find relevant niche video game news. When you apply, please tell us a little about yourself and tell us why you would be a good writer for oprainfall!

Authors

Have you ever wanted to write your own video game-related articles that thousands of people will read? Then you’ve come to the right place. Authors are encouraged to write editorials but may also write news pieces, as well. Editorials include but are not limited to opinion pieces, top-x lists, debates, and polls. Get creative and make a name for yourself!

Requirements: Strong writing ability and comprehension of the English language. If applying, please forward a sample of your writing for review. Anything will do—a short story, a blog post, even an old high-school or college essay. oprainfall authors are expected to write a minimum of two articles per week. All editorials must be approved by a senior editor.

Editors

We need editors most of all. Are you the type of person who just hates seeing typos and writing mistakes in articles? We hear you; we see it all the time on those other sites, and it drives us crazy! Why not help oprainfall avoid the same mistakes by volunteering as an editor?

Requirements: A college degree is preferred, but not strictly necessary. Anyone wanting to be an editor at oprainfall will need to show they have previous editing or writing experience in an educational or professional setting. Editors will need to edit and publish at minimum four articles per week, which should take about an hour of your time. Editors can write articles, as well, if they so choose but will not be required to do so. Please note that editors in training will be required to write news pieces for a short time until they are fully trained and so we can determine whether you are a competent writer.

Reviewers

I bet you’d love to get free games, right? (Who wouldn’t?) Well, now you can! Simply apply for one of our writing positions (news writer, author, or editor), and if you prove yourself a capable writer, you can request to join our review team. You can also message the Review Manager once you’ve passed basic training if you want to focus primarily on reviews. We’re currently in need of reviewers, ESPECIALLY for indie games, so as long as you can write well, it’s likely you’ll be approved for the review team quickly. Exciting! Just keep in mind all members of the Review Crew must finish and write up at least one review a month, as well as staying current with their other minimum writing requirements.

Requirements: This position can be applied for, but only after you’ve passed basic training. You must then prove yourself a capable writer first, and we can work from there.

Thank you all for reading, and we look forward to working with you in the future! Apply by e-mailing us at [email protected].

DISCLAIMER: All positions are volunteer, non-paying positions. We make no promises of any compensation or incentives. All material made for oprainfall and used on the website becomes the property of oprainfall. Volunteers can be released at any time at the discretion of management.

Steve Baltimore
Steve started with oprainfall not long after the campaign moved from the IGN forums to Facebook. Ever since, he has been fighting to give all non-mainstream RPGs a fair voice. As the site admin, he will continue to do this and even show there is value in what some would deem "pure ecchi." He loves niche games and anime more than anything... well, except maybe Neptune.
