Developer Galaxy Trail made a surprise announcement on Christmas Day that Freedom Planet 2 is happening and is currently in development. This is the sequel to Freedom Planet, which was successfully crowdfunded on Kickstarter and released for PC and Wii U. The game takes inspiration from 16-bit platformers on SEGA Genesis and combined it with enduring characters and a story with a lot of depth. The newly opened official website includes a ton of information on what the developers learned from the first game as well as what’s coming to the sequel. Most of the original voice cast will be reprising their respective roles with a few new additions. A trailer released for the game also gives a peak at what to expect from Freedom Planet 2‘s story.

The game currently has no release date, but the developers plan to release a beta for the game sometime in 2017. This game will not be crowdfunded, and developers have simply suggested interested gamers to check out the original Freedom Planet on PC and Wii U. Finally, the Galaxy Trail official Twitter page stated that Freedom Planet 2 will mimic the original game’s release platforms of PC, Mac, Linux, and Nintendo, with other platforms possible depending on resources.
