So much for the ‘extended vacation’. According to Japanese newspaper Nikkei, Hideo Kojima has left Konami as of today (December 15) to form his own studio. Our own Will Whitehurst was kind enough to translate the first paragraph of the Nikkei story, which reads as follows:

“Famous game director Hideo Kojima, who is known for the Metal Gear series of games, officially left Konami Digital Entertainment on the 15th. His new company will continue to make games, and he plans to make games for Sony Computer Entertainment’s PlayStation game system.”

We hope to find out more details about Kojima’s new company as soon as we can, but it sounds like Kojima is getting a fresh new start in game development with his new venture.
